Sexual harassment + homophobia is offensive.
Seriously, if a subordinate mockingly suggested that his partially-closeted lesbian boss was having orgies with female coworkers there would be a problem, right?
Switch the genders and it's still just as belittling.
I guess my perspective on adult friendships is warped. I would absolutely say that to a friend, and Quen doesn't come off as a hierarchy-driven guy. But if they aren't that kind of friends then yeah.
(Also, if I hear "hey, RUDE" it comes off as joking to me, so that's probably part of it.)
True, Quen is not a hierachy driven person. He is, however, insecure about his orientation and Carmella knows it. She's purposely trying to goad him into a negative reaction. Viktor, however, IS hierchy driven, isn't tolerating her passive-aggressive bullshit.
None of the above-listed topics have been explained in detail yet and we are just getting hints of it here early on in the story.
People seem to have a much harsher understanding of adult interaction that I do. Apparently mocking someone's personal struggles are signs of friendship these days.
I am NOT AN ADULT, keep in mind, but yeah, pretty much. The thing is WE don't know that Quen's insecure about his orientation. As far as we know, she could be ribbing him about a thing he's proud of.
Um. You know what is right for you. I hate that mocking someone's personal struggles are 'signs of friendship'--it isn't. It's a nasty way of finding out who's on top in the relationship. It's fake and evil and wastes time and energy. And I'm glad you made that post.
