Oh god. How is she going to cope in the time it takes her prosthetics to be made? Honestly, this kind of injury is probably one of my worst nightmares.
Well, we read up a lot on the psychological effects of amputation, as well as the physical recovery, and found that both are delicate processes that need constant upkeep for months, even years.
While this is vital for the realism, it doesn't make for gripping storytelling. What we'll actually be seeing is a time skip - seeing about a year later after she's recovered enough to leave the hospital. She'll fill us in on the in-between.
I don't know. It could make a really interesting story actually. It wouldn't fit into THIS story, but still interesting as it's own subject.
The real world rules might not apply here anyway though. Amputation is a pretty horrible prospect in the real world, but maybe not so much in a world where sci-fi like, fully functional cyborg prosthetics really exist.
