YOU HAVE BEEN KILLED THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION

Ooookay... I did expect the provication of an attack in order to be able to claim self-defense, even though provocation doesn't help with that.

With the way this went down, the self-defense argument will be hard to make though. Especially with the gun-in-mouth part.

Shooting from a (small) distance, and not thinking off / taking the risk of attempting a merely disabling shot? Reasonable under stress. Gun-in-mouth? Hard to argue in court.
DesertLion 30th Mar 2018, 3:28 PM edit delete reply
You seriously think that there's any chance this is going to court or that Viktor gives a flip about making a self-defense argument? They'll have to be able to identify him first. Doubt seriously any of the stunned masses will note the license plate on his bike if it's even still there. He's certainly no opening his visor. One fewer ignorant zealots in the world isn't going to leave much of a dent on anyone except, perhaps, Emily. She may be stunned now, but reflection should serve her well and perhaps lead to better decisions in the future. Okay, that last part is unlikely...

It's a big rally. That means there are allready cops there. It would be inrealistic for him to not be arrested shortly after. This should not be a difficult case for the cops to solve, they have solved far more with far less then they should have on this.
VikJones 7th Apr 2018, 2:28 PM edit delete reply
It isn't a big rally. We had seen the crowd is under hundred people. There are no cops either, had we shown any? If there were any cops barely anything of this would happen. Or do you think they wouldn't stop them from the violent abuse targetted against a teenage girl?
No cops.

This was murder, if he was shoot dead, pure and simple. It felt way over the line from the feel of this comic so far.

I agree it’s not in flow with the normal feel in this comic but it was foreshadowed that something like this would happen at some point. It’s both plot heavy and character heavy.
I don’t like this but things are going to get interesting.

The first page of the prologue shows a surgeon crying over a dying child. That is literally the first thing you see of the entire comic. Three pages later they say that Pro Noia essentially harvests subjects via manipulation.

What were you expecting after reading that, something like Steven Universe where everyone hugs and cries all their problems away?

1: I actually forgot about that.
2: Still a big leap from that to murder on stage. It's just so recless. They just handed the anti pro noia movement a big win.
3: I just got the name! Pronoia is the polar opposite of paranoia. It's the feeling that people are conspiring to do you good.

I feel the same. 1st degree murder, if the provocation comes to be known: Coldly planned and executed.

It will send a message indeed, but IMHO one that gives the anti-pro-noia people an advantage. And a martyr.

Edit: Qwent, I fully agree with you point 2.

I very much expected this to go differently:
- "OMG he has a knife!"
- Guy slices Quen's jacket - BANG!
- Victor enters the stage, aiming his smoking gun at the dead body.
This way, Victor would have appeared to protect/save Quen from a deadly attack that was already going on. Who could prove that they planned it? But now it's murder. If Victor won't get convicted, the next step will be that the anti-pro-noia people will consider to hire an assassin.

That went considerably further downhill....

Question, is he dead? in the first panel his hat is falling off. Physics tells us that if it did and he was shot, he would fall on or near it. The "blood" could be from the bucket that Emily threw.
Klaus 28th Mar 2018, 4:54 PM edit delete reply
That seems like a bit of a stretch. We'll see soon though I suppose; The comic has recently picked up speed (maybe to match the story?).
Mark n 28th Mar 2018, 5:59 PM edit delete reply
If you look at the panel with the flying hat you can see an object streaking though the hat. It is the bullet.

Well Doc, you have executed the perfect cranial evacuation... No coming back from that!

A suggestive set of images, but I feel that I am being herded toward a conclusion.
So far, all I have seen is Viktor utilizing a utensil that bears a visual resemblance to a firearm. I have not been provided with evidence that it is indeed such.

Why are so many people in denial about this being a page in which Viktor ices a motherfucker?
LR 29th Mar 2018, 2:44 AM edit delete reply
They're in denial because they like Victor, but this is reprehensible. It also seems very stupid on his part.

The audience probably thinks it's part of the stage show... dispose of the bodies and nobody will be the wiser. Dr. V is not recognizable w/ helmet on and the other two of the crew are the victims of the pantomime. The blonde best run before she is sold off to a Saudi prince... a better punishment for her than just being shot.

I miss the good old days when a time out was the answere.
Mark N 29th Mar 2018, 6:08 AM edit delete reply
I can understand Victor's actions. These people abandoned and are a continuing threat to a young lady that they love as family. Remember that they left her on the side of a highway while she was noticeably seriously ill. This was no different than leaving her for dead.
I agree this action was a bit of a surprise but if you remember the character bios, they are called the Pro-Noia Mafia.

I try to pay attention, especially when the story and characters are so believable.
Eira 30th Mar 2018, 2:30 AM edit delete reply
Very well done and fitting for the mafia theme. A bit of a shock after seeing the good sides of these characters, but a great way to show that they are not nearly as clean cut as they appeared to be when seen only from normal day to day scenerios.

This comic is very much in line with real life. As in real life there is rarely a black and white to people. Shades of gray is the way people are and that includes the characters in this story.

Once, in the woods just out of town, I accidentally shot a kid in the head who was trying to aim a gun at me.* I was alive and unharmed and the kid was dead. Two others fled and got away while I was standing there, with my gun pointing to the ground, mind blank... with the dead body of a boy several steps away. A few minutes later my buddies found me, led me to the car, somehow packed up the body and off we went.

Since the kid had a gun and was trying to aim it at me, I was still in a defense situation. My buddies asked me later on, why didn't I rush the kid and slapped the gun out of his hands... I had no answer. In hindsight, I probably could have done that. I just didn't. I didn't want to kill him, I wanted to scare him and had aimed between his feet, but somehow I missed and killed him.

After that point, the whole world felt - UNREAL. My buddies fed the body of the boy to the dogs. It didn't make a difference to me, I was smiling all the time...

I'm not smiling now but the unreal-ness I feel about this page is somewhat similar.

------

*: Don't worry, it was a pen & paper RPG and the 3 kids were NPCs. But what I felt was as real as can be.
We were playing old army buddies who met again by chance and were dragged into some serious shit, of which this was the beginning. And that's all I remember of it.
